The MLC
Building in Martin Place was designed by Bates Smart and McCutcheon
as the result of a competition in 1938 and is characteristic of
the stripped classical style of the 1930's. The tower of the building
is an extension of its vertical corner shaft and incorporates
a sculpture, Unity in Strength, which symbolised the
reliability of the organisation.
