Originally
a showcase building for the glass manufacturer Australian Consolidated
Industries, it had three levels of showrooms and offices. The
exterior was tiled with glass mosaics with glass block infill
panels and the entry doors to the foyer featured ‘bullet
proof’ glass. The display windows at street level were of
curved convex and concave glass to eliminate reflections. They
are similar to Heals department store windows in London. Mutilated
in two renovations, the interiors and the ground floor are lost,
and the glass blocks replaced.
